Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the fractal dimensions of the old and new photographs of the retablos in San Miguel de Archangel Church in Argao, Cebu. The photographs were converted into binary using the simplest image processing known as the thresholding effect. The binary image provides simple view and eases for computing its fractal dimension. As time progressed, the irregularity of the pictures was predominantly caused by the restoration activity that has been done by the church such as the gilding of gold leaf and the disappearance of Mother Dolorosa, which by the concept is not precisely done. Hence, this study forwards the necessity of having the applicable handling of historical artifacts. This will allow for more religious communities to be extra cautious when restoring ancient church structures.
